MEETING AGENDA
The first meeting of the fall 2008 semester will be Wednesday August 27th at 8:00pm in 302 HUB. Below is the agenda and any relevant documents that will be discussed during the meeting:
WELCOME
On behalf of the elected student Representatives of the University Park Undergraduate Association’s Assembly of Student Representatives, welcome. This is an exciting and challenging time for student government at University Park with students striving to achieve shared governance and meaningful impact on the governance of their university that is afforded to us by the Board of Trustee’s Standing Order IX. The Assembly is elected in the spring annually by various constituencies and is charged with deciding the opinion of the approximately 36,000 undergraduates students. This is done through extensive deliberation and research done in the seven standing committees and during general meetings throughout the semester. The Assembly is the functioning heart of the democratic voice of students at University Park and we take this honor and responsibility seriously.
The Assembly wasted no time this session tackling major issues facing the student body and responding appropriately, guided by an ambitious and motivated President Gavin Keirans. While the UPUA still must divert much of its resources attempting to centralize student government to provide convenient and sensible control of services and decision making to the student body (accountability), the UPUA Assembly will also be focusing on providing legal services to students, hosting the ABTS conference in the fall, working to modernize ASA, improve student access to parking at their student union building, fighting to ensure that the new facilities fee is controlled by students, among other issues that come up on a daily basis.
If you have issues, concerns, or thoughts feel free to attend the Assembly open student forum during any regular meeting or make a presentation to the Assembly during a Town Hall meeting by contacting me. If you are interested in becoming a Representative or a staff member please follow the above links and download the appropriate application. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ralph Crivello
College of Engineering Representative
Overall Assembly Chairman
